How Polarization Works
Polarized lenses reduce blinding glare. They do this by cutting horizontal glare. Horizontal glare is the reflection of the sun’s light on a flat, shiny, or polished surface. In the diagram on the right the lens blocks the reflected visible and UV light allowing you to see clearly and comfortably.
Created on the Hawaiian Islands to make the colors shine, Maui Jim polarized sunglasses feature patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology for brilliant color so every detail is crisper and cleaner and without glare or harmful UV. Slip on a pair and See the Brilliance.

Top 5 Reasons To Wear Polarized Sunglasses
- UV Protection – The sun’s harmful rays can lead to serious, and in some cases, long term health issues, including photo keratitis (sunburn of the eye’s surface), ptergium (growths on the eye), cataracts, macular degeneration , cancer of the eye, eyelid, or surrounding skin.
- Skin Cancer – 5% to 10% of all cancers occur around the eyes. Always wear quality, protective sunglasses when outdoors – whether working, driving, running, playing or watching sports.
- General Eye Comfort – The sun’s brightness and glare interferes with comfortable vision and the ability to see clearly, causing squinting, eyes to water and possible headaches.
- Dark Adaptation – Spending even a relatively short time in intense sunlight can hamper the eyes’ ability to adapt quickly to nighttime or indoor light levels, and make driving at night difficult and even hazardous.
- Blue Light Protection – Blue light is High energy visible radiation (HEV). Use outdoor lenses that absorb the HEV, as accumulated exposure has been associated with age related macular degeneration.
